Life Moves in Hampi ~ The source of the Temple in Nature

The source of the Temple in Nature

Movement course with Suprapto Suryodarmo and Mala Sikka

13th December 2004 to 1st January 2005

Rock sculptures, Hampi, Karnataka "This is the staring unsleeping eye of the earth; and what it watches is not our wars."

The quality of your touch, receptivity and intuition will be greatly enhanced by the practice of ‘Life Moves’ or ‘Amerta Movement’.

Amerta movement

Amerta movement ~ The River of Life ~ is a practice without a fixed form. In the absence of set patterns of movement to 'master', the practitioner is guided to explore basic movements on all levels from the ground upwards to develop ability and fluidity in expression. They can then meet themselves and others with increasing vitality and equanimity. As desires for the future or fears of the past arise, the student is encouraged to return again and again to the central point of the body and its connection with the earth, in the here and now.

"...a fountainhead from within you, moving out"

Rumi, 13th Century

Practising in different environments is essential for creating a heightened sense of awareness outside us and therefore a more open and balanced perspective. Relaxation is vital. The more authentic our movement becomes, the more our body/minds reflect our attitudes to life in general.

The work unfolds in a trusting atmosphere of warmth and compassion. The focus of this course will be The source of the Temple in nature. Traditionally the temple has been a place of refuge and community, a space in which to feel protected. Moving outdoors in nature, we will reveal the essence of refuge, which lies within us all. Taking time to adapt to this inspiring environment and discover this particular sense of joy, we will learn to find refuge in the landscape near and far.

Through our movement practice, this sense of safety will grow, so that we become secure when communicating with each other until definitions of inner and outer, self and other, person and rock become unified. Moving in response to river, wind and sky, and building shrines among the rocks will help us embrace refuge, vitality, and a heightened sense of awareness as an ongoing support in our daily lives.
